Music, film and opera fans alike should head to Millennium Square at 7pm on Friday 19 July for Classical Hits, an open-air concert celebrating some of the best-loved classical music from stage and silver screen. The Orchestra of Opera North will be joined by a host of special guest artists to perform popular works by classical masters such as Bizet and Puccini, and legendary film composer John Williams.
Audiences will be transported to other worlds (and galaxies far, far away) by famous movie themes from Hollywood blockbusters – from Star Wars to Jurassic Park – and excerpts from operatic masterpieces including Carmen and La bohème, all powered by the full orchestra for an unmissable summer celebration.
Anyone left wanting more should don their dancing shoes, lycra and legwarmers and get back to Millennium Square the following night for 80s Classical. The iconic event returns at 7pm on Saturday 20 July for a fifth season that sees the Orchestra of Opera North team up with headlining pop legends Bananarama, alongside Midge Ure, Johnny Hates Jazz and Deniece Pearson of Five Star, for a night of pure nostalgia.
Tickets for Classical Hits and 80s Classical are available from millsqleeds.com (0113 376 0318) and operanorth.co.uk (0113 223 3600).
