A GHOST STORY AT YORK GRAND OPERA HOUSE

A GHOST STORY AT YORK GRAND OPERA HOUSE

During the week-long run at the Grand Opera House York, 2:22 A Ghost Story cast members, Vera Chok and Fiona Wade meet popular Bloody Tours guide Mad Alice (named after the figure of local folklore who died in 1825) in what’s known to be the most haunted pub in England.

The cast members of the edge-of-your-seat, supernatural thriller (showing in York until Saturday 4th May) took time out of their two-show day to meet up with Mad Alice in the Golden Fleece, situated in the city centre.

York is filled with haunted places and stories, often referred to as the city of a thousand ghosts.  Mad Alice says ‘With haunted pubs, churches and theatres, York should be on every ghost hunters list’.

The Golden Fleece pub is just one of the places in York ghost hunters visit.  A hotel as well as a pub, guests have been known to stay up all night to see if they experience anything ghostly.

The show, written by Danny Robins, creator of the hit BBC podcasts Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist, is based around the goings on during the night at exactly 2.22 and the characters are determined to find out by staying up to see what happens.

The Grand Opera House is 122 years old and the perfect setting for a show such as this.  Laura McMillan, Theatre Director at the Grand Opera House York says ‘With over a hundred years of history, the Grand Opera House certainly has a few spooky tales to tell that make us the perfect host for 2:22 A Ghost Story’.

This new stage phenomenon and winner of Best New Play at the Whatsonstage Awards, includes an incredible cast including Vera Chok (Hollyoaks, Cobra) who plays Lauren, Jay McGuiness (The Wanted, BIG! The Musical, Rip It Up) who plays Ben, Fiona Wade (Emmerdale, Silent Witness) plays Jenny, George Rainsford (Call the Midwife, Casualty) who plays Sam.

2:22 A Ghost Story comes fresh from record-breaking seasons at five West End theatres with a host of acclaimed star performances. It’s a brilliantly funny and adrenaline-filled night.  The show ends its run in York on Saturday, so book now, and see for yourself if ghosts appear or not appear. Do you dare discover the truth?
