It’s the 40th anniversary of the Miner’s strike and Red Ladder Theatre Co, in collaboration with Unite the Union, is rebooting ‘We’re Not Going Back’ – a hard-hitting musical comedy, set in the ’84/85 miner’s strike, that follows the fortunes, of 3-sisters determined to set up their own branch of Women Against Pit Closures. It’s the story of resilience of working-class communities against unfathomable odds, packed with humour, song and a six pack of Babycham!
Written by Chumbawamba founder member, Boff Whalley with music from Boff and Beccy Owen, and directed by Elvi Piper (Wrongsemble, Slung Low), the remounting of this show, originally created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike, is again supported by the North East and Humberside regions of Unite the Union and will see Victoria Brazier, Claire O’Connor, Stacey Sampson and Beccy Owen reprise their original roles.
The show embarks on a tour across the North of England during March including Lawrence Batley Theatre Huddersfield and City Varieties Leeds. For dates and other venues visit www.redladder.co.uk
