Getting mum out of the kitchen and treating her to a meal has long been a favourite form of gifting for Mother’s Day.  But this year with lockdown and the closing of eating out places we cannot take mum to the restaurant – so why not bring the restaurant to her!

Piccolinos in Collingham is a perfect option with a menu that translates into the perfect take-away-meal and will certainly temp the most fastidious taste buds.

The menu features many of the dishes available in the restaurant and if in doubt there’s some exact pictures and descriptions on their website.

We ordered our takeaway for 7.30 and it came bang on time. Ideally packed in large boxes you only need to remove the container lids and pop the hot food in the oven whilst  the salads and sweets are in bowls that will fit into the most compact freezer.

With a glass of wine we sat down and munched on a very tasty Pane All’Aglio Campania – a hand stretched garlic bread with a great taste with Mozzarella and Smoked Provola Cheese.

Something to remember there is a great and very reasonably priced wine list on the menu and our choice had to be Villa Teresa Extra Dry Prosecco. I am not a great fan of Prosecco and normally avoid it but this organic Italian Prosecco has become my one of my favourite wines. Why because it’s not highly acidic, doesn’t give me a banging headache next morning and has a lovely smooth taste and lots of bubbles.

For starters my partner chose Costine – Hickery Smoked Barbecue Ribs. This was a generous portion and the sauce was smooth with a traditional sticky texture whilst the meat just fell off the bones.

My choice of  Bruschetta con Gamberoni was especially pleasing. The king prawns were tender and the toasted ciabatta was crisp.








The Spaghetti Alla Carbonara got the highest accolade from my partner who has lived in Italy – “Its as good as I would expect to find in Italy. Very authentic and not over cooked”. The dish was the old fashioned recipe of cream, free range egg, pancetta, flat leaf parsley and pecorino cheese. He ordered Isalata to accompany his pasta – Isalata – a salad of Rocket and Matured Italian Cheese with a light and tangy dressing.









Branzini – a whole Sea Bass was my choice for main course. It was a very large piece of fish cooked to perfection. To get fish cooked right is a real test of a chef – especially when its coming out to be kept warm again. This was succulent and tasty and served with garlic, parsley and lemon.








Extending my healthy option I had sides of Verdure – Broccoli, Beans and Peas in Basil Butter that were bursting with flavour and Spinaci with Garlic and Chilli.








My heaven on a plate can only be described as Bellissimo! Torta Di Passione is a cheesecake that is ultra delicious. It comes with half a passion fruit and surrounded by a passion fruit sticky sauce. The fusion of the flavours is a masterpiece with the tangy passion fruit complimenting the light and fluffy cheesecake.








The Torta Caprese – a dark chocolate almond tart my partner chose looked delicious too so I had to have a taste. The almond complimented the rich chocolate of the tart, encased in a rich pastry and served with a dollop of Mascarpone cream.
