A TOUCH OF HOLLYWOOD STYLE HITS THE COSY CLUB

If you’ve never visited the Cosy Club in Albion Street then its time you did.

From outside it just looks like a  door with a well lit vestibule and staircase leading up to the eatery. But ascend the multi-mirrored staircase and suddenly its like being transported into a glamorous 70’s Hollywood style Narnia. I can certainly guarantee the décor, ambience and atmosphere t will certainly take your breath away.

Closed for a couple of months the Cosy Club has had an interior design makeover giving it an almost cinematic look.

The main colours of the décor are shades of rose pink and orange. It’s an eclectic mix that really has to be seen to be believed and appreciated. Lighting is sublimely beautiful with lots of stained glass screens, a choice of types of seating including some incredibly comfortable banquette seating and at least 9 breakout areas of varying sizes, including the terrace area when the heat is on. All have their own individual style, character and décor which blends together with the other areas so expertly.

We had a very warm welcome and were escorted to our table by our friendly and very knowledgeable server. We started to peruse the menu which contained a great selection of dishes from different culinary cultures.

From the small plates menu we chose our starters. I decided on the Burrata and Baby Pear Salad, which came with toasted pine nuts and a mustard vinaigrette, which certainly gave the dish a kick. It was a very good portion but there was little evidence of pear in my portion.  With this I decided to try the Traditional Iraqi Laffa Flatbread , which I shared with my partner.

The flatbread was described by our server as “naughty but nice” – and her judgement was totally spot on with butter and sea salt giving it an enhanced flavour.

My partner  chose the Garlic and Pepper Prawns ,which consisted of three garlic lemon and chilli king prawns, tossed in smoke paprika butter on toasted sourdough bread bites. These were crisp and the seasoning and the spices were used to perfection. The sourdough was light and slightly crisp but not crunchy.

In the course of his job my partner travels the world and he admitted it was “the best starter he’d had for some time. Each morsel juggles with your tastebuds”, he said

When it came to mains I was over the moon as the menu had amongst its choices three different types of fish.

The Panko-Crusted Line Caught Cod with a caper butter sauce really took my fancy and I was not disappointed. It came with a great accompaniment of sautés spinach and chunky chips. The sauce was smooth and the fish succulent and moist and was encased in a crispy panko coating .

The chunky chips were crispy on the outside but fluffy and smooth on the inside just as they should be.

My partners chose the 28-day dry-aged grass-fed British Beef 10oz Rib-Eye Steak which came cooked exactly as requested. It was tender and succulent and served with a shallot and mustard butter, gem salad, a tasty Caesar dressing  and came with fries. Everything about the steak and its accompaniments was perfect.

For dessert I indulged myself with the light but tangy Lemon Posset which was served with raspberries and an all butter shortbread. This was certainly my heaven on a plate  whilst my partner had just room left for a serving of the delicious and very fruitsome Mango Sorbet.

Before we finally left the Cosy Club I just had to explore and  I marvelled how expertly each area  had been choreographed and the ultimate use of fabrics, seating, lighting and tables had been used.
