Yorkshire Dance is delighted to announce a partnership with Wayne Sables supported by National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) at Sadler’s Wells to deliver a regional youth dance project – Dance Whispers.
Following a successful funding bid to Arts Council England, Dance Whispers will commence in March 2015 and will enable 10 youth dance groups from Yorkshire to receive a small financial contribution to support a young person to explore their choreographic ideas which, in turn, will form a new choreography for their group.
The first choreography will be made in response to the premier of NYDC’s new work by Guest Artistic Director, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui at Sadler’s Wells on April 10th. The subsequent choreographies will be made in response to one another as part of a regional youth dance exchange programme, culminating in a performance on 12th July at The Stanley and Audrey Burton Theatre in Leeds.
Regional groups involved are: Hull Youth Dance Company, Doncaster Youth Dance Company, Dance Action Zone Leeds (DAZL), Rebuzz (Rotherham Boys), Scooch (Scunthorpe), Dance United Yorkshire (Bradford), Curve Dance (Easingwold), Northern School of Contemporary Dance (Leeds), Street Beat (Doncaster) and Lyn Wilson and Heather Shepherdson School of Dance (Hedon).
Each youth dance leader will identify and nominate one young person within their group who demonstrates talent and interest in choreography. These 10 individuals will then receive training and mentoring from professional choreographer, Joss Arnott, to support them to take a choreographic lead within their groups. In addition, the 10 young choreographers will visit Sadler’s Wells twice once during the devising of Cherkaoui’s new piece for NYDC and again for the premier.
Dance Whispers supports the vision for future dance makers and highlights the opportunity for young dancers to become part of the National Youth Dance Company.
