TUNING UP FOR THE FUTURE

CALLING ALL TALENTED YOUNG PLAYERS

TUNING UP FOR THE FUTURE

Talented young orchestral players across the North of England and beyond are being given the opportunity to spend a week of their summer holidays immersing themselves in music and developing their playing and performance skills with some of the country’s most highly-regarded musicians as Opera North announces its first residential Orchestra Academy.

Designed for 14 to 19-year-olds playing strings, woodwind, brass or percussion at Grade 7 level and above, the Opera North Orchestra Academy will be held in Leeds from Tuesday 28 August to Saturday 1 September. Over the course of the five days, the participants will rehearse exciting orchestral repertoire alongside the full Orchestra of Opera North and benefit from sectional and chamber music coaching with the Orchestra’s players in a bid to develop excellence in ensemble skills and orchestral performance. The week will culminate in a public concert under the baton of an internationally-renowned conductor, giving the Academy players a glimpse into what it takes to stage a professional orchestral performance and the excitement of the event itself.

After the residential camp, the participants will be invited to take part in ‘keeping in touch’ weekends during the October and February half terms and to join collaborative projects such as the Opera North Youth Company which will give them an opportunity to stage performances with the Opera North Youth Chorus.

The cost of attending Opera North Orchestra Camp is £425 which includes tuition, full board and accommodation, with a non-residential option for £275. Bursaries are available. Anyone interested in being considered for a place should apply for a free audition at www.operanorth.co.uk/opera-north-orchestra-academy
