Experience the finest contemporary cuisine of the orient – experience Tattu.
Enter through the large glass doors surrounded by black marble and its almost as if you have been catapulted across the world to a far-away-place. Hanging cherry blossom creates a suave and sophisticated atmosphere with mood lighting and opulently furnished tables.
It was a cold night early in the week when me and my colleague visited Tattu and yet the restaurant was full of obviously discerning dinners. But despite being busy the restaurant still radiated an atmosphere of tranquillity and calm.
After being seated we were greeted by our server with a sweet introduction. “Hello I am Katie I am going to look after you” a lovely touch we thought.
The staff here are always ready to help if you are overwhelmed by the menu they really know their product and do make you feel special.
We decided to start with a cocktail whilst we perused the menu. I chose the Cherry Blossom Negroni – Negroni being my favourite cocktail. The creation was inspired by blossoms and contained a sweet blossom vermouth which I must admit I rather liked and came dressed with a sprig of cherry blossom planted in an ice cube.
My colleague chose the Eastern Dragon. It was juicy and floral with an amazing taste of Cointreau and Raspberries and no spoilers here the way its delivery is pure magic.
To start our veritable feast we chose two small plates to share. The sweet and sour vegetable tempura consisted of enoki, courgette, sweet potato and ponzu all in a really crispy coating. This dish was amazing and if I could have this dish with all my meals I would really enjoy ‘eating my greens’
Our other choice was Crispy Kataifi King Prawns a truly spectacular dish of large tender prawns wrapped in an angel air pastry and fried. Served with a mango and sweet chilli dip this was really ‘the food of the Gods.’
For mains my colleague chose the Emperor’s Duck Breast with plum glaze, kumquats and daikon – a mild flavoured winter radish. The duck was cooked to perfection and she declared ‘it smelled like Christmas’. The sauce was slightly spicy but the sweetness of the kumquats balanced it beautifully and gave it a special fusion of flavours. Certainly a dish worth waiting for she declared.
My choice of Salt and Pepper Monkfish was an excellent one. A large portion it was served beautifully with a sweet vinegar, soy and lime. The fish was encased in a crispy light batter and served in an imaginative pyramid way.
The fish was succulent and moist and full of flavour.
Now I am not a great fan of rice but our choice of Vegetable Fried Rice to share really changed my mind. It was flavoursome and packed with carrot, courgette and spring onion – a dish to be savoured.
The dessert menu at Tattu is beyond words and certainly one of the best and magical desserts is Cherry Blossom that comprises of cherry, chocolate and candy floss. No wonder it’s the restaurant’s most popular dessert.
The presentation is amazing and so good you just want to sit and look at it.
I chose the Year of the Dragon as my ‘heaven on a plate’ and it really was. It’s not for the faint hearted but made for those with a sweet tooth and a love of all those wicked desserts.
In an edible case of thin chocolate there is an amazing concoction of cashews, butter fudge, hazelnut and marshmallow. The hazelnut and cashews help diffuse the sweetness of the butter fudge.Pure decadence!
Tattu is an oriental dining experience like no other. It’s contemporary cuisine is amazing, delicious and filled with a magical taste of the orient. But its mind blowing presentation and wonderful atmosphere, just like its cuisine is beyond belief.
