The ultimate Rock'n' Roll musical
The Million Dollar Quartet is a brilliant piece of musical theatre. It tells the story of Sam Phillips, owner of Sun Records, a self made man who launched the careers of four of the most significant rock stars of the 1950’s.A Rock’n’Roll extravaganza it tells the true story of a one-off, impromptu gig at Sun Records in 1956 when Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis found themselves in the studio at the same time, started to jam together and Sam Phillips hit the record button and the rest is history.
It’s a high energy seamless production with an opening number ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ that literally blows you away and catapults you into that amazing era. As Sam Phillips, Jason Donovan, proves just how good a character actor, he is pulling the whole story together in an outstanding performance the blends effortlessly into the juke box musical. On stage Ross William Wild (Elvis Presley), Mathew Wycliffe (Carl Perkins), Robbie Durham (Johnny Cash) and Martin Kaye (Jerry Lee Lewis) have incredible musical and vocal skills yet manage to keep their characters believable as young men out to take the world by storm.
It’s a fascinating story with 23 hit songs including ‘Great Balls of Fire’, Sixteen Tons’‘Hound Dog’ and ‘Walk the Line’. The Million Dollar Quartet has a great feel good factor and is the kind of musical you just don’t want to end. It
