Endellion's summer residency
Renowned as one of the finest string quartets in the world, the Endellion String Quartet returns to The Venue, Leeds College of Music on Tuesday 26 April to begin its popular annual Spring/Summer residency.
Part of a series of four concerts all taking place on Tuesday nights at The Venue, the Endellion String Quartet performs Haydn’s melancholic Quartet Op 76, No 2 (Fifths). The concert also features Mozart’s Quartet K464 (The Drum), which he dedicated to his friend and mentor Joseph Haydn, and Tchaikovsky’s Quartet No 2, a work which the composer considered to be his finest.
Formed in 1979, the Endellion String Quartet is internationally renowned for its world-class performances, with its schedule seeing the quartet touring across the globe. The quartet has appeared at nearly all the major series and festivals and is regularly broadcast on BBC radio and television. The quartet’s various recordings have also been named Chamber Music Recording of the Year by both the Daily Telegraph and The Guardian, and have seen them win Radio 3’s Critics’ Choice and Editors Choice at the Gramophone Awards.
The Endellion String Quartet has held its popular residency at The Venue in Leeds since 2003, as well as being quartet in Residence at Cambridge University, Associate Quartet of the Royal Northern College of Music and undertaking several short-term residencies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA.
