PLAYHOUSE FORMS ITS OWN ENSEMBLE

Ten Northern actors have formed the Leeds Playhouse Ensemble, a  repertory company who will perform in a selection of productions throughout the Playhouse’s unique year-long Pop-Up season.

Leeds Playhouse Artistic Director James Brining said: “We have had an incredible month here at the Playhouse which was kick-started with the change of the theatre’s name at the end of June to Leeds Playhouse, echoing the original name the theatre opened with in 1970. We are planning a wide range of work for audiences to experience in both the Pop-Up theatre and across the city region throughout this autumn and the spring of 2019.  At the heart of this programme is the establishment of our hugely talented, Northern Ensemble Company. For me it’s a particular pleasure to be once again working with an ensemble after 10 joyful years leading Dundee Rep’s company.

We believe it’s important that a large regional producing theatre such as the Playhouse cultivates develops and provides meaningful opportunities for local actors and supports the local creative ecology and it will be a real pleasure to watch the company grow as individuals and as a team over the next year.”
