A sprinkling of magic is just one of the things to look forward to as Opera North prepares for the festivities ahead.
In Opera North’s home city of Leeds, three relaxed performances of Little Listeners: Cinderella take place in the Howard Assembly Room on Saturday 9 December. A company of professional opera singers and musicians gives the much-loved rags-to-riches tale an enchanting musical makeover, while a pre-performance workshop invites everyone to make a magical wand to cast their own spells throughout the show.
The fairytale theme continues at Huddersfield Town Hall on Tuesday 12 December with two animated family films based on Roald Dahl’s mischievous Revolting Rhymes. With the soundtrack played live by the Orchestra of Opera North, the event provides the perfect opportunity to introduce youngsters to orchestral music. On Sunday that week, in the Howard Assembly Room sees storyteller Marco Woolf, contemporary dancers and two Opera North pianists come together to revisit the classic tales Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, The Green Serpent and Beauty and the Beast. A brand-new story, The Fairy Garden, accompanied by the music of Ravel, completes the afternoon’s entertainment.
