LEEDS FASHION FESTIVAL

Make a note not to miss this exciting event

LEEDS FASHION FESTIVAL

Paris, Milan, London and New York and now LEEDS!

Leeds Fashion Festival is now officially launched.

This  most exciting venture for Leeds will take the form of a 10 day festival in October. Its aim to put Leeds once again on the map as a fashion capital.

Once the home of ready made clothing, in the 1920’s up to the 1960’s Leeds was a fashion centre. It sported shops that sold haute couture and impressive department stores such as Marshall and Snelgrove, where ladies would drive up in their chauffeur driven cars to shop at the store – Mr Selfridge eat your heart out.

Schofields was another department store that sold the best of everything including the first outfits in their Young Yorkshire department by new designers such as David and Liz Emmanuel, Dolly Rocker, Westwood and so on as well as wedding, cruise wear and fantastic continental couture.

But then came the 70’s and the last of these shops began to disappear until the resurgence of Leeds for fashion and shopping some 15 years ago.

Lisa Darwin, founder and organiser of Leeds Fashion Festival, added: “Our aim this year is to become the biggest
fashion and shopping event outside of London. We have already commenced plans for the 10
day festival in October with high street brands, independents and students from across the city flocking to be
involved the enthusiasm for the event is irresistible!

The annual Leeds Fashion Festival takes place from 21-30 October this year, featuring multiple fashion, hair and
beauty shows for high street brands, designers and independents in iconic city centre shopping centres and
venues across the city. With special events planned for fashion students and young designers at the city’s
universities who will have the opportunity to showcase their design talents on the catwalk. The University of
Leeds, Leeds Beckett and Leeds College of Art have strong Fashion Design courses and its mix of students from
all over the country and the world help to mould and shape the fashion scene in Leeds.

The festival plans to be the North’s largest shopping and lifestyle exhibition outside of London, placing Leeds as
a city for fashion excellence and collaborating with multiple businesses and individuals to deliver a vast and
dynamic programme. The Festival will host a fashion village with pop up shops, industry workshops, live
demonstrations, networking events, glitzy parties and talks from industry experts. Leeds Fashion Festival is a
landmark event for the City and an event for everyone, the first of this size for Leeds.
