Landmark Leeds venue North Bar has beaten tough competition across the country to win ‘Best Drinks Selection’ in The Publican Awards 2014. The Publican’s Morning Advertiser is officially the number one publication for the trade in England and Wales and has long been considered the pub trade’s favourite newspaper.
North Bar was established in 1997 and is widely recognised as the first ‘craft beer’ bar in the UK. The operation was judged on its full selection of drinks from beers, spirits, cocktails, wines, soft drinks and coffee. In addition to the array of drinks, all finalists took part in an extensive three-stage judging process, which included mystery visit reports during which staff knowledge and the company’s approach to responsible operating were also assessed. The prestigious award was presented in front of 1400 attendees at a ceremony on Tuesday, 25 March 2014 at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
North Bar is a previous winner and two times runner up of The Observer Food and Drink ‘Best Place to Drink in Britain’. North Bar Ltd operate 6 bars around Leeds; flagship North Bar, The Cross Keys (Holbeck), Further North (Chapel Allerton), Alfred (Meanwood), North Bar Social (Otley) and Preston (Oakwood). The growing family of bars prides itself on delivering amazing beers and service in great venues.
Operations Manager Matt Gorecki said “We’re really, really pleased to win the Publican’s Best Drinks Offer Award, it’s great for the team behind the bar at North to see some recognition of how hard they work day in day out. Kath, Jim and myself are incredibly proud of our brilliant selection of drinks and our big, shiny award!”
Director Christian Townsley said “This award is recognition of our efforts to put Leeds on the map as a top destination in the UK hospitality industry. The landscape of Leeds’ nightlife has evolved beyond recognition since we opened 17 years ago and we’re delighted to have contributed to that by delivering top quality service and great drinks to our wonderful, loyal customers who have supported us over the years.”
