TO WIN THE LEEDS PUB PIANO CONTEST?
Returning to Leeds after nearly thirty years the Leeds Pub Piano Competition is set to get The Tetley swinging to a different beat. This epic competition brings together three simple ingredients – Pints, a Piano and a Pub – promising some of the greatest pub piano entertainment to hit the city in years. The heat takes place on Thursday 6 September and the final takes place on Thursday 13 September.
Now open for entries, the Leeds Pub Piano Competition is looking for those who can tinkle the ivories to toe-tapping crowds. Whether you’re a budding pianist or have years of experience, it’s up to you to prove your pub piano skills in front of an audience and impress the judges for your chance to win £500.
We want you to perform a set, which could include popular songs, sing-a-long hits, old-fashioned tunes… or whatever you think it is that will both surprise and entertain.
If you’d prefer to watch and relax with a drink in hand, come along and revel in the rhythm as pianists from across the city and beyond compete to be crowned the 2018 Leeds Pub Piano Competition winner.
The Leeds Pub Piano Competition coincides with the Leeds International Piano Competition – this fringe competition’s older sibling, founded in 1963, is one of the world’s most famous contests.
The Leeds Pub Piano Competition began in the 1980s and was formally known as the Tetley GULP. It was sponsored by Joshua Tetley & Son Ltd and was held at the Victoria Hotel. The event ran triennially alongside the Leeds International Piano Competition until 1996. It’s being brought back to Leeds almost three decades later to rediscover the talented pub pianists of Leeds and to bring more live music to the city.
Sponsored by Tetley’s Beer, the Leeds Pub Piano Competition is brought to you by Leeds International Concert Season, Leeds College of Music, The Leeds International Piano Competition and The Tetley.
