Has the festive season of late nights and heated styling wreaked havoc on your hair? At this time of year, it is good to rethink our approach to health and well-being. Like clear skin, “shiny healthy hair is an indicator of good health”, says Gareth Vance, Senior Creative Director at Sassoon Salon Leeds. For the perfect New Year detox, without a green juice in sight, Sassoon Salon has some simple steps you can take to give your tresses a fresh start.
Go au naturel
Heated styling tools can be a fast track to dry, damaged and brittle hair. Instead of reaching for the hairdryer, try letting your hair dry naturally where possible, at least once a week and choose styles that don’t require straighteners or tongs. If you do need to reach for the styling tools, use a heat protector such as Sassoon Professional Halo Hydrate (RRP: £17.40) before blow-drying and apply a serum before applying any further heat to protect and shield your hair.
Bringing the moisture back
The cold weather can leave your hair feeling dry, brittle and lifeless and it is vital to “replenish and retain moisture”, says Gareth. Get your tresses back on track by applying a weekly deep conditioning treatment such Sassoon Professional Intense Restore (RRP: £17.45) to add elasticity, manageability and shine, penetrating deep into the hair’s cortex and injecting a rush of moisture, whilst smoothing the cuticle.
“If your hair isn’t quite the glossy, lustrously shiny mane you wish for, a good home care regime, regular trims and frequent treatments will keep it on track,” recommends Gareth. An appointment in the salon every 6-8 weeks for a trim or cut will ensure your hair remains healthy, super shiny and full of body. Alternatively, if the winter really has taken its toll and your ends are screaming out for some TLC, what better time of year to consider a new look. Head into the salon for a complimentary consultation with one of our expert Stylists and/or Colourists who will advise on the best looks to suit your individual lifestyle and personality.
