COMEDY KINGS BACK IN LEEDS AFTER TOUR OF BIG SMOKE

A fledgling Leeds-based comedy night is back in action this week after a number of its most exhilarating comedians recently completed a successful tour of the big smoke to celebrate its first birthday.

Six acts from Sh!ts ‘n’ G!ggles, which takes place on the first Wednesday of every month at Hirst’s Yard, were invited to perform at London’s Leicester Square Theatre in recognition of the night providing a real platform for new talent.

Founded by Cowbell Radio presenter, Ben Brown a.k.a Ben Randm (www.facebook.com/totallybenrandom), Sh!ts ‘n’ G!ggles has provided a stage for more than 100 young and emerging comedians from across the UK and has welcomed more than 1,000 punters through the doors.

On the back of a successful outing at the Leicester Square Theatre, a venue which plays host to the likes of TV’s Sean Lock, Ben is now looking to grow Sh!ts ‘n’ G!ggles in Leeds, while complimenting it with a UK-wide tour throughout 2013.

Ben said: “Sh!ts ‘n’ G!ggles prides itself on giving new talent the opportunity to step on stage for the first time, develop their styles, find a voice and adapt to a live environment. We also welcome established acts who are keen to try out new material and shows.

“I had been looking to set-up a comedy night for many years so to see it gaining in momentum and popularity, as well as receive recognition as far as London is just unbelievable. It really makes you feel that you’re doing something worthwhile and of merit and I sincerely hope the acts we’ve taken on feel the same.

“I have great respect for the team at Hirt’s Yard for providing us with a venue over the past year. It’s a beautiful building with lots of character and which really adds to the night’s atmosphere. Without the venue’s support we wouldn’t have got where we are today.”

The night’s next outing will be this Wednesday 6 February at 11 – 13 Hirst’s Yard, Leeds, LS1 6NJ. Doors open at 8pm with acts on from 9-11.30pm and entry is only £1, with discounts on selected drinks throughout the night.
