Showcase your work during ‘Forbidden Fruit’ a poetry performance evening at Square Chapel
On Saturday 12 October Square Chapel is delighted to welcome back Roy Hutchins. Following last year’s ‘Poetry on the Nose’, Roy returns to perform ‘Forbidden Fruit’, Heathcote Williams’ latest collection of poetic meditations.
This wonderful evening will be split into two halves. The first is Roy performing Heathcote Williams’ wonderful words and then after the interval there will be an opportunity for local poets to showcase their work. Whether a professional or never performed in front of an audience before, Square Chapel wants to hear from everyone. Those people interested in getting involved should contact Emma Booth on 01422 353073 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Featuring pieces including a celebration of bees, a paean to the Tiger and an extradordinary encounter with a jackdaw, ‘Forbidden Fruit’ was described by ‘The Oxford Times’ as being “Tender, provocative and surprising… crossing mental boundaries and making connections readers will be enriched by”.
Heathcote Williams is probably most famous for his epic poems ‘Autogeddon’ and ‘Sacred Elephant’ about environmental issues, and the celebrated work ‘Whale Nation’ his call for a worldwide ban on whaling.
Roy Hutchins is a versatile comic, actor, director and writer. He has twice been nominated for a Perrier award and was the first comedian to have a solo run at The Comedy Store. His gift for humour ensures that this show has plenty of laughs as well as layer upon layer of Williams’ searing intellect.
Tickets for Forbidden Fruit are £12 and £10 concessions, available from Square Chapel Box Office on 01422 349422 or online at www.squarechapel.co.uk
