A CONCERT OF REFLECTION

A CONCERT TO REMEMBER THEM…

Airedale Symphony Orchestra and Leeds Philharmonic Chorus perform music to reflect and commemorate the centenary of the end of World War I on Sunday 21 October at Leeds Town Hall.

The musicians perform a varied programme of commemorative music, including Elgar’s The Spirit of England, which captures the horror and sadness of war, John Williams’ melancholic Hymn to the Fallen from Saving Private Ryan as well as Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture known for its climactic volley of cannon fire, ringing chimes and an impressive brass fanfare finale. Also on the programme is Overture Cockaigne (In London Town) and Nimrod by Elgar, Spitfire Prelude and Fugue by Walton, Sleep by Eric Whitacre and Verdi’s Va pensiero from the opera Nabucco.
