Fine Food at The Grosvenor Casino Restaurant

Want to avoid the party hats, tinsel and canned Christmas music for your festive outings then the restaurant at the Grosvenor Casino could be the answer.

If you don’t want a flutter then you’ve no need to. The restaurant has a great ambience on the circular balcony and is far removed from the hub of the gaming.

You can look down on the players if you want to or you can chose a table where you wouldn’t even know you were dining in a casino.

Whilst we looked at the menu we decided to order a cocktail. The Grosvenor’s cocktails are the real thing, skilfully mixed and what’s more you can really taste the ingredients.

My Rosa Gin Fizz made with Malfy Rosa Pink Grapefruit Gin and Prosecco was a gin drinkers delight – the balance of the mix was perfect and the strawberry garnish brought back memories of summer as it threw it down with rain outside.

The Salted Caramel Expresso my colleague chose was given full marks. You could really taste the salted caramel and this, with the Eristoff Vodka, Kahlua, and an expresso was a great combination.

For starters we chose from the small plates menu which is exceptionally good value. But these were no small plates. My colleague couldn’t believe the size of her plate of Nachos. The tomato salsa was the best she had ever tasted whilst the guacamole was smooth and diffused the taste of the jalapenos. The whole thing was deliciously mildly spicy.

I chose  Prawns and Avocado. The Marie Rose sauce was tasty and gave a definite kick to what could have been a rather bland dish whilst the prawns were succulent and there were plenty of them.

From the Field and Fin section of the menu I was attracted by the Baked Sea Bass Fillets with crushed baby potatoes, tender stem broccoli with a rustic tomato sauce. The two large fillets were cooked to perfection succulent and full of flavour. The tomato sauce gave the dish a taste kick as sometimes fish can be rather bland. The presentation, as with all the food we were served, was excellent.

My colleague chose from The Real Grill Menu ordering The Veg-|Mex Burger. It was an excellent choice and she was over the moon with the fusion of flavours. It was a Falafel and spinach burger, topped with melted cheese, lettuce, chilli mayonnaise, jalapenos, pickle and tomato.

It was flavoursome and spicy and excellent value. The chick peas, gherkins it was served with added to its taste. One of the most tasty vegetarian options she had tasted for a long time was the verdict.

We couldn’t resist the Good Pud menu and again the portions were more than generous. My colleague’s Baked Vanilla Cheesecake had a definite flavour of its own which was very palatable and the raspberry coulis was the perfect accompaniment.

My heaven on a plate came in the shape of the hot Apple Tarte Tatin. The filling was tangy fresh apple in a hot  puff pastry case served with plum and cinnamon ice cream – these are freshly cooked and it was more than well worth the wait.

It’s a very friendly atmosphere here and both bar and waiting staff made us feel special and were willing to go that extra mile to make us welcome and ensure our meal was spot on.
