Yorkshire Country Cricket Club: Losing Momentum

A busy couple of weeks have seen Yorkshire lose some of their early season momentum. At the Rose Bowl against Hampshire in the County Championship, Yorkshire racked up 415 all out in their first innings, Adam Lyth continuing his breakthrough season with 133 and receiving good support from Anthony McGrath (64), Andrew Gale (56), Adil Rashid (51) and Joe Sayers (49).

Hampshire replied with 351, Rashid taking 4 for 62, before Yorkshire made 292 for 5 declared (Adam Lyth 98 and Anthony McGrath 64), but with little time left the game petered out to a draw.

The Roses match at Headingley was badly affected by the weather, with two days completely lost to rain, but when they did take to the field Yorkshire were given the run around by their neighbours from across the Pennines, Lancashire making 416 for 9 declared, Rashid again being the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 121. In reply Yorkshire struggled to 199 for 8, only Adil Rashid (65) making a significant contribution, but once again the game petered out to a draw, mainly thanks to the weather.

Two losses in the Twenty20 Cup followed, first as Derbyshire amassed a huge score of 222 for 5 at Headingley, overseas player Clint McKay taking 4 for 33, before Yorkshire made 157 all out in reply. At Worcester the following day Yorkshire’s bowlers were again put to the sword, this time conceding 208 for 7, Adil Rashid taking 3 for 32, before Yorkshire made 187 for 7 in reply.

Finally a tour match with India A gave Yorkshire another opportunity to test their young reserves. India A piled up 473 for 3 declared in their first innings, before Yorkshire replied with 219 all out, Tino Best (40) top scoring and debutant Alex Lees making 38. However once again the game petered out to a draw.
