When we first got our iPads in the office, we were naturally very excited. They were shiny, glossy, snazzy and, of course, pretty damn cool. We’ve taken them out to meetings even when we didn’t need them, just to show off. And we’re pretty sure that people think we’re 38% sexier when we’re carrying our iPad.
Then, disaster struck (nearly). We were walking through the streets of Leeds, and we tripped on an uneven paving stone, iPad in our grasp. The fall seemed to take hours, we scrabbled desperately, it seemed hopeless to stop our dear sweet iPad breaking. And, thank God, we kept it in hand. All was well, we breathed a sign of relief.
From that day on, it was decided to we should probably keep our iPad in a case. But which case? We headed over to www.gearzap.com, picked out three and gave them a spin.
Tuff-Luv Multi-View Napa Leather Case, £29.95
Despite having some odd looking buttons and buckles, this one was pretty impressive. It came to us with a load of recommendations, it was nominated for the best iPad case on www.ebookreaderguide.com, for best accessory for iPad by the Sunday Times and as best accessory for the Macuser magazine awards 2010.
The reason it’s well regarded isn’t that the aforementioned belts and buckles are purely for aesthetics, nope, they let you stand the iPad up in its case between 20 and 70º, which is pretty handy, especially if you’re watching videos on the gizmo’s very nice screen.
Slappa White Damask Netbook or iPad Case, £18.95
This white and black textured case makes a bit more of a statement than the rest, and trades off the sleek leather with some nice padding and a snazzy pattern on the front. And, as an extra bonus, it’s also water resistant.
A handy extra is the little zip-up packet on the back, so you carry your iPad accessory around with you.
Griffin Elan Passport iPad Folio, £29.95
One for the business executives this. It flips open and closes up like a book, with a smart, filo-fax style buckle to keep your iPad securely held in place. The microsuede lining protects your iPad from scratches and smudges too, which is always good, and the inner cover includes pockets for business cards, bank cards and more.
We’re alternating between the three now, depending on what mood we’re in, whether it’s raining or not, and whether we plan to be using it to show video, or just to sit around and waste time on Twitter. Most importantly though, we no longer live in constant fear of breaking our most precious of gizmos, which is nice.
