Kerry Harker’s ‘Work and Play’ exhibition has taken up residence in Harvey Nichols’ fourth floor. The exhibition features a selection of ceramic plates painted in such a way as to challenge meaning and perceptions of colour.
Each plate included in the exhibition bears the name of a colour, painted in a completely different one. Ranging from £100-£200 in price, the plates display the intricate care Harker has invested in the completion of these delicate, yet strikingly bold pieces.
The plates themselves are high-quality bone china, providing a snow white surface for Harker to paint on. Colour names are hand-painted by the artist in ceramic enamels, a laborious process as each plate must be fired in the kiln four or five times at extremely high temperatures to attain such a brilliantly bright shade.
‘Work and Play’ will be open for public viewing until mid-September. Plates of the exhibition are being sold individually.
