The West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra is set to make a splash when they quite literally take to the water to perform as part of the I Love West Leeds Festival on 24th July.
The orchestra group has been commissioned to play as part of the festival’s innovative closing event in the stunning surroundings of the Edwardian Bramley Baths. Performing a very fitting rendition of Handel’s famous Water Music, the orchestra will serenade swimmers from a specially constructed platform right in the middle of the pool.
Jude Abbott, spokesperson for the orchestra, said: "We are giddy with excitement in anticipation of our festival closing event. A truly unique classical music concert in beautiful Edwardian Bramley Baths, this has to be the prettiest place to swim in the city.
"Lie back and close your eyes and listen as the music of your own personal orchestra surrounds you. Just don’t miss this really special musical event. But remember: no running, diving, bombing, heavy petting or splashing the orchestra!"
The I Love West Leeds festival is a quirky celebration of all things arty in west Leeds. In its seventh year, the festival promises to bring Leeds residents everything from heritage trails to dog art, alongside a host of family-oriented events to create a real community celebration of local talent.
Tickets are available both for swimmers and those who would prefer to keep their toes dry, with spectators able to watch the performance from the balcony while indulging in lemonade and cake. A vintage swimwear exhibition by Artemis and photography by Lizzie Coombes will also be present at this unique event.
