Preview Valentine's Day Events

A round up of some of the other events happening across the city

Preview: Valentine's Day Events

The Cockpit
Heavy rock enthusiasts should head down to The Cockpit for their St. Valentine’s Day Massacre event, where local metal heads These Monsters will be launching their new album with two rooms of full-on riffage featuring support from the likes of That Fucking Tank, Humanfly and Hot Club de Paris.
13 February, Swinegate, LS1 4AG, 0113 244 1573, £6, 2pm

Mr Ben’s
The underground city centre vibe of Mr Ben’s is well suited for nights of a more vaudevillian variety, and their Valentine show is no exception. Promising cabaret, comedy, live music and DJs, The Tickle and Tassel Club is a new weekly addition to Mr Ben’s classier outfit, not to mention a dedicated comedy night, Tickle My Feet. This new laid back, lounge approach for Valentine’s Day looks likely to set this alternative venue in good stead for the coming year. Something they’re clearly happy to make a song and dance about.
13 February, 9a Albion Street, LS1 5ES, 0113 246 8899, £8, 8pm

The Northern Monkey
The e-zine Beat Surrender (so called after the Jam hit) have made a name for themselves across the city promoting some of Leeds’ best indie rock upstarts, and their evening of anti-Valentine debauchery at Northern Monkey will no doubt get cupid well and truly pissed off. Expect loud tub-thumping from Soul Circus, Jack and Gill’s Daughter and Cherry Picasso, and it’s free entry, so more money to spend on beer. Northern Monkey is putting on more live music shows in February featuring the same calibre of promising acts. Be sure to check their website for the latest info.
14 February, 115 The Headrow, LS1 5JW, 0113 242 6630, www.northernmonkey-leeds.co.uk, free, 6pm

Pink Valentine Ball
Breast Cancer Haven, based in Leeds, is putting on a really good show at the Met Hotel for a special charity fund raiser. Expect pink champers, a four course meal, live band, plus disco and dancing into the night.
12 February, The Met Hotel, King Street, LS1 2HQ, 0113 259 5307, £39 per person, 7pm-1am

Tiger Tiger
We had to double check what this was, but in case you’re curious, Tiger Tiger’s Lock & Key Party is a singles event in which guys and gals are issued corresponding locks and keys with the idea of discovering your match. There is also traffic light dating and a slave auction if this doesn’t work, not to mention a full Valentine’s weekend of meal deals and a club night special on the day itself.
14 February, The Light, 117 Albion Street, LS2 8DY, 0113 236 6999, £5. Romantic menu offer runs from 12-14 February
