When the details of the latest project by Test Space Leeds dropped in to our inbox, we weren’t quite sure what the night would entail, how it would work, or even exactly what it was. One thing we were sure about though was that we wanted to tell you about it.

Test Space Leeds are a small group who exist to “connect work, ideas and people, showcasing this to the people who live in the city. Creating connections and collaborations through showcases, festivals and one off events. Promoting the cultural identity that exists in the city.”

So far, Test Space have taken over the downstairs space at Crash Records and shown off at 42 New Briggate gallery, but this new project, talking place at Temple Works on Saturday 4th September, is a whole different prospect.

The night is a one-off contemporary Victorian banquet. What makes up a contemporary Victorian banquet, you may well ask? Well, we don’t know the full details. What we do know is that it has been created by local chef and blogger Mike Wallis and the folks at Chapel Allerton’s Sunshine Bakery and will include a “de-constructed whole hog” (no, we’re not 100% sure what that is either), giant Eton mess, pastry covered fruit, loaned pineapples, local foraged food and more.

And it’s not just about stuffing yourself, there will also be a food themed DJ set by Mixmasher RE# (we’d like to put in an early call for DJ Format’s ‘Ill Culinary Behaviour’), live music, food porn photography challenges (again, what this is, we’re not 100% sure) and a debate and discussion about Leeds’ past, present and future by local writers, bloggers and futurists.

It promises to be a fascinating evening, and all set in the amazing Temple Works building (read more about that here), a Victorian mill based on the Egyptian temple at Edfu – a sight probably worth the entrance fee.

4th September, Temple Works, , 6pm-12am, £10, book at http://testspacekitchen.eventbrite.com, find out more about Test Space Leeds at www.testspaceleeds.com

I have this vision it’s going to be like Heston Blumenthal’s ‘do, only with less irritating celebs and I actually get to taste the food! I can’t WAIT!

I’ve booked to go too, can’t wait. I love the idea of a ‘de-constructed’ whole hog and Eton Mess.
