Queer alternative club night Poptastic will return to Leeds on Sunday 1st August to celebrate Leeds Pride. And this time round it’s set to be bigger, better and crazier than ever as The Cockpit hosts DJs Steve S and Phil Perry. The event follows a performance by Pineapple Dance Studio’s Andrew Stone and his band Starman, who’ll set the stage with a high-energy electro-pop set sure to get you grooving.
If that’s not enough, Poptastic DJs will please you with a variety of music for every taste. In the main room, DJ Steve S will be playing pop hits with music by just about everyone, from ABBA classics to contemporary hits by Rihanna. In the second room, DJ Phil Perry will cater to the more alternative crew with a selection of indie music by Florence and the Machine, Vampire Weekend and The Strokes, among others.
Promoter John Hamilton created the event 15 years ago as an alternative to Manchester’s previously muscled-up Gay Village scene. It has proven to be a hit throughout the UK, having made an appearance in seven cities over the years. Leeds, however, hasn’t had a proper Poptastic night since 2007, and Hamilton is very glad to be back. “It’s been way too long since we last played Leeds,” he says. “It was mental last time and without a doubt, a night of crazy antics lies ahead!”
