Preview Louise Gibbs with the Kirk Lightsey Trio
Celebrated pianist comes to Leeds with a special vocalist
Preview: Louise Gibbs with the Kirk Lightsey Trio
The resume of Kirk Lightsey reads like a jazz history - he’s a celebrated pianist who needs little introduction to fans.
Having played and recorded with the likes of Chet Baker and Sonny Stitt, audiences are in for a treat when he is joined by acclaimed vocalist, Louise Gibbs. As the College’s very own Associate Professor of Jazz, Louise will be on very familiar territory to launch their latest recording, Everybody’s Song But Our Own. Don’t expect anything wild or boundary breaking, but rather grace and excellence, performed in a concert of two halves. First, Louise and Kirk will perform their duo version of chamber music, before being joined later by the members of Kirk’s UK trio.
The concert will feature their interpretations of the great American songbook, along with other timeless classics. Expect virtuosity and soul, power and charisma, when the two talents collide.
Wednesday 25 March, The Venue, Leeds College of Music, 3 Quarry Hill, LS2 7PD, 0113 222 3400, 7.30pm, £10
