A number of exciting acts are in store for Bradford’s St George’s Hall this autumn season. If you can’t wait till September to start the comedy season, Jongleurs will tide you over until then, as it returns to Bradford on Friday 23rd July. Two hours of stand-up comedy from the best and brightest stars will kick-off at 8pm. The event, for over 18s only, is guaranteed to keep you laughing and in high spirits – what better way to start the weekend?
Supporting acts of curry and booze will be offered as a package deal for a bargain fee of £6.95. Anyone with a ticket can choose from meat or vegetarian curry with rice and naan bread, served in the Rendezvous bar. As far as drinks are concerned, pints of lager, beer, wines and soft drinks will be available. Tickets must be shown at the event in order to collect your food and drink. A live acoustic band will be playing to ensure a good night even after the curtain has come down on the evening’s comedy acts. You’re strongly recommended to book in advance for this one, as tickets sell out fast. But don’t worry, this isn’t just a one-off offer – St George’s Hall is dishing this deal out for numerous shows this autumn season. Below is a listing of all events at which the curry and drink offer will apply.
Jongleurs Comedy on the Road will return again on Friday 17th September. Jongleurs say they have worked long and hard to whittle down the list of potential performances so that only the best of the best will appear live at Bradford’s comedy night. BBC One’s The Armstrong & Miller Show Live UK Tour is included. The sketch comedy show will keep the audience guessing, laughing and always enormously satisfied as it takes to the stage on Saturday 25th September. Armstrong and Miller are a strong and spontaneous double act who have earned fame with good reason. Favourite characters from the TV show will star in this performance.
Activist, novelist and comedian Mark Watson will perform a hybrid form of hilarious stand-up comedy on Wednesday 6th October, incorporating improvisation and organised chaos. Watson has worked with almost-president Al Gore on environmental efforts, proving he’s more than your average run-of-the-mill comedian, and he really has polished up his stage performance to make him one of the best, and most likeable, stand-ups on the circuit.
Perrier Award Winner Jenny Eclair will grace St George’s stage on Friday 8th October with her new stand-up act, Old Dog New Tricks. The 50 year-old comedian is sure to put on a high-octane show for her fans to enjoy.
TV funnyman Sean Lock is bringing his one-man show Lockipedia to Bradford on Sunday 10th October. As Lockipedia is a “very unreliable, misleading but highly entertaining information resource” (says Lock), the show will fill your head with useless knowledge of questionable legitimacy – and give you many reasons to laugh. A chance to see a comic at the top of his game.
On Saturday October 23rd, Big Fat Quiz of the Year game show host Jimmy Carr will bring his latest comedic act Laughter Therapy to St George’s Hall. With his seemingly non-stop tours, Carr has proven himself to have extremely high endurance, and his love-it-or-hate-it wit is still as sharp as ever.
Al Murray is another of the UK’s top comedians, and you’ll have a chance to see him live on Thursday 28th October. Murray will appear for two hours as his popular pub landlord persona in his act Barrel of Fun, spouting off bar room banter as only Al can. An Alf Garnett for the modern era.
Comedian Jason Manford may be relatively young but he’s no stranger to the screen or stage. As well as an actor, writer and television presenter, he is a seasoned stand-up act. At age 24, he was nominated for a Perrier Award in Edinburgh. Now, five years later, he’s only gotten better with age. Jonathan Ross has described him as “one of the most consistently funny and effortlessly charming new comics around”, and on Saturday 30th October you’ll get to see him live in Bradford. (Manford will also appear on Saturday 31st July, though the curry and drink offer does not apply to this show).
November at St George’s Hall will kick-off with American stand-up comedian and cult favourite Reginald D Hunter, often described as one of the coolest men in comedy. Hunter has quickly become a headliner and is absolutely not to be missed. The American will appear on Wednesday 3rd November.
Canadian comic Stewart Francis will bring the laughs through brilliant one-liners on Wednesday 10th November. Francis frequently appears on television in America, Canada and the UK and has toured all over the world, earning him international renown. Francis is a multi-talented performer and his stand-up act is sure to be spot-on and satisfying. The finely tuned one-line jokes are so tight and cleverly worded – and dispatched so fast – that the only problem you might experience is not having time to laugh in between each one without missing the next.
No introduction needed for Frankie Boyle, Scottish comedian and Mock the Week star who’s taken the UK by storm through dark, controversial humour. His 113-date tour, I Will Happily Punch Every One of You in the Face, is scheduled in Bradford on Saturday 20th November. Boyle has said this tour will be his last.
Ross Noble‘s Nonsensory Overload will hit Bradford on Tuesday 30th November. The Geordie comedian has earned fame through regular appearances on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and two BBC Radio 4 shows, and through word-of-mouth praise over his stand-up acts. Dubbed the king of all things random, Noble will entertain St George’s with completely nonsensical, hilarious stand-up that’s sure to please.
Looking ahead to Monday 31st January next year, John Bishop brings his brand-new show to Bradford. Bishop has recently been given his own show on BBC One, featuring a mix of stand-up, sketches and stories. The popular observational comic from Liverpool will end the season on a high note, and start the new year off nicely with his lovable brand of intelligent, personal humour.
