Monster rock and indie festival hits Leeds for your Bank Holiday

Preview: Live at Leeds

Diaries out, and mark this date in your calendars: Thursday 30th April to Monday 3rd May. One of the proudest moments on the Leeds music diary, Live at Leeds promises to deliver high quality performers for a super low ticket value.

With acts still to announce, the line up is shaping up nicely with a mixture of local and national touring bands on the bill. If northern electro pop is your thing, then The Sunshine Underground will be displaying their dance-rock hybrid: more riffs bring more intensity to the live show, which recently sold out the O2 Academy. If you’re into more eclectic stuff then Lightspeed Champion will be providing his eccentric blend of American country meets classical all bound together with jolting guitars and synth sounds. His live reputation is that of glimmering theatrics and at least one ukulele moment.

For your more traditional indie fans, British Sea Power will be headlining a separate gig at the Holy Trinity Church. Their all-encompassing, sweeping guitar pop, peppered with angular and esoteric instruments, has seen them likened to The Cure and Pixies.

Blood Red Shoes are providing some of the rock. The Brighton duo have been added to the headline bill after a storming set on the Dance To The Radio stage at Leeds Festival last summer, and the release of the Fire Like This album, they’re building a name for explosive live sets.

With a strong line up, it’s worth pencilling in some of the new names to your itinerary. Ones to watch include Gold Panda, who have had new music tongues wagging last year alongside The Drums and Everything Everything who both appeared in just about every ‘Best Acts of 2010’ list.

All in all, for a £15 wristband, you’re safely going to net a lively catch of shows for the Bank Holiday weekend.
