This year’s Leeds Retail Therapy Awards are approaching fast and we’re all getting very excited here in the Leeds Guide office. Each year, the Leeds Retail Therapy Awards go a little further to enhance Leeds’ reputation as the fashion capital of the North.
For the one million shoppers who visit Leeds each year, the number one reason for coming is the fashion! The tough decision is then: which retailers deserve your appreciation? Out of the thousands of shops and companies in the city centre and beyond, which are the ones you couldn’t live without?
Last year’s Leeds Retail Therapy Awards were the biggest yet – and boy, did we celebrate on the night! Everyone had a great time, and with a record-breaking 10,000 votes cast we were all confident that the awards had truly gone to the best that Leeds has to offer – from the top independent shops to the most successful newcomers.
Established in 2005, the annual Leeds Retail Therapy Awards are now in their sixth year. They were set up to help promote and celebrate the city’s favourite retailers. And this year, it’s going to be even bigger and better. You can start voting for your favourite retail shop in an open vote on the Leeds Retail Therapy Awards website from the 6th August. The places you vote for now will help decide the shortlist, and eventually the winner for each of the categories.
This year there are 19 categories for retailers to battle over: including Womenswear, Menswear, Lingerie, Beauty Salon, Local Designer and Shopping Centre. The most fiercely-fought category, of course, is the Retail Legend Award, given to the shop in the city centre that has established a soft spot in the hearts of Leeds shoppers. Last year’s winner was M&S and the year before the independent record store Jumbo Records.
