If there’s one thing the Elbow Room does well, it’s pool. Pool and great drinks. Two things that the Elbow Room does well; pool, food, great drinks and music. Five things. Plus sport. Abandoning the Monty Python reference (not a moment too soon), the Elbow Room can now add charity to its growing repertoire with the announcement of their annual pool tournament, this year in aid of seven year old Leukaemia and Downs Syndrome sufferer Ben Roe and hosted by Wayne Lineker (find out more about Ben here).
The format of the tournament is simple, with 32 teams of three being divided into groups within which to play a round-robin contest, the top two teams of each advancing to the last 16 before the quarter finals, semis and (of course) the final itself. By way of a final twist, everything from the top 16 onwards is subject to a ‘best of 3’ rule. Phew.
Happily, those forward-thinking folks at the Elbow Room have pre-empted the need for booze-based sustenance and will be providing not only a free drinks reception pre-tournament, but also two for one cocktails all night. For those not wishing to partake in the pooling, there will also be appearance from Leeds’ best DJs, a street dancing exhibition, live bands, a raffle, silent auction, free drink tasting and an after party at The Rock Bar. Let the games begin!
19 August, Elbow Room, from 6pm, entry costs begin with a minimum donation of £10 per team, £2 admission for spectators, with all proceeds going straight to Ben Roe
