As the summer festival season winds to a close, Bingley Music Live is gearing up for a weekend crammed with music from familiar names and soon-to-be-known faces.
Now in its fourth year, the Bradford Council-run event is hosting 22 acts for 22 hours of live music from 3rd to 5th September. Headliners have been confirmed as punk legends Buzzcocks, Manchester indie giants James and NME award winners The Enemy.
The small Yorkshire festival has attracted a diverse range of acts that have graced the stages of iconic festivals such as Glastonbury and Leeds, including Ash, The Levellers, Seasick Steve, Professor Green and Reef. Also making appearances are Example, Hadouken, Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip and 24 piece all-female alternative pop choir, Gaggle. ‘Red Dwarf’ and ‘Coronation Street’ star Craig Charles is also appearing with his Fantasy Funk Band (see opposite page for an interview with Charles).
Taking the opportunity to showcase regional talent, Bingley Music Live is also giving the winners of Bradford Theatres’ battle-of-the-bands competition an opportunity to perform to the 15,000 strong crowd. The successful acts that will take to the stage are 17-year-old singer-songwriter Jasmine Kennedy, three-piece band The Mexanines, Black Diamond Bay and The Dawnriders.
Last year’s sell-out event saw 40,000 music lovers attend, and was nominated in the Best Medium-sized Festival, Best Grassroots Festival and Best Headline Performance categories at the UK Festival Awards. This year the festival hopes to emulate that success with an energetic, friendly and intimate event with sounds to suit every taste.
