If you’ve never watched Twin Peaks you just don’t know what you’re missing! It’s only one of the most acclaimed series to ever grace a television screen – and in the 20 years since it was first broadcast it has generated a cult status for fans of all ages.
Produced by David Lynch in the 1990s, Twin Peaks gave birth to some of television’s most memorable moments and some of its even more unforgettable characters: whether it is FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper and his love of cherry pie, the brutal murder of homecoming Queen Laura Palmer, the deeply terrifying Bob or the surreal dancing dwarf who speaks in backward riddles.
And for die-hard Twin Peaks fans out there, whether you watched the original series on television or discovered the joys of Lynch’s cult classic in recent years, the Twin Peak party, Fire Walk With Me – taking place at the appropriately-atmospheric Grade 1 listed Temple Works – will be a totally surreal treat.
The brains behind the madness are the Leeds-based arts entrepreneurs Micheale Spessa and Dave Lynch (seriously, what are the odds?). The night starts at 7pm on Saturday 18 September with some very specially-tailored (and frankly rather wonderfully-odd) entertainment in store: there’s a mooted cherry-stalk tongue-tying competition in honour of Audrey Horne; a Miss Twin Peaks look-alike pageant; and music inspired by the mind-bending world of the peaks, including Samuel Foxton Welles and anti-folk hero Thomas Truax, who will performing in the Black Lodge.
And to keep you going until the early hours, damn fine coffee will be available all night long in the R&R Diner (if you don’t mind being served by a waitress in an eye-patch, that is); plus for those with a sweet-tooth and a talent with pastry, there’s an opportunity to enter a damn fine cherry pie contest. If you’ve got a few casino chips to lose, shimmy along to one-eyed Jacks and enjoy cabaret and mesmerising acts from the darkest minds of the underground arts scene.
