Pick'N'Mix Lisa Harker

Every fortnight, the best local DJs give us their top five tunes

Pick'N'Mix: Lisa Harker

Lisa ‘Darker’ Harker is a graphic designer and freelance illustrator by day and DJ extraordinaire by night. She cut her teeth at Rebellious Jukebox, Pigs and Bad Sneakers and was once one half of a DJ duo with Owen Brinley of Grammatics. She now spins her records at The Session, every Friday at the Cockpit.

‘My Girls’ - Animal Collective (Domino)
“I love the cosmic beginning with The Beach Boys vocals and a really heavy bass sound that means it sounds amazing in a club.”

‘Die Slow’ – Health (Lovepump United)
“This band are from LA and are awesome live. This track is a bit of a monster (probably why I like it) - insanely distorted guitars with a killer beat and dreamy vocals… somehow it all works.”

‘Cheat On Me’ - The Cribs (Wichita)
“You can play any track by this band in a club and the kids will go mental. This is the first single from their new album Ignore the Innocent and I can’t seem to get it out of my head.”

‘So Fine’ – Telepathe (IAMSOUND)
“Super geeky, super cool girls from Brooklyn. I play this a lot whilst I’m getting ready to go out.”

‘Velvet’ - The Big Pink (4AD)
“It’s almost like they rolled my favourite bands into one song, then I realised why… it was produced by Alan Moulder who worked with Depeche Mode, My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain.”
