Pick'N'Mix Dan Lomax

Every fortnight the top local DJs give us their top five tunes

Pick'N'Mix: Dan Lomax

Dan Lomax has been playing at indie, alternative and electro nights across Leeds since the 90s. This month he reaches his 10th anniversary of working at The Cockpit, where he is resident at alt/indie/electro night The Session on Fridays and alt/rock/indie night The Garage on Saturdays.

‘NYC Moves to the Sound of LA’ - Funeral Party (RCA)

“A monster track bringing together alternative rock guitars and punk-funk rhythms that really defines the sound of my dancefloor at the moment.”

‘Intimate’ - Crystal Castles (Polydor)
“The undisputed highlight of both the new album and the band’s awesome Leeds festival appearance last summer. In the club it is akin to a massive ice cool, raved up, adrenaline shot.”

‘Parlez Vous Francais?’ - Art vs Science (AVS)

“Shredded rock guitars, a Run-DMC beat and a huge bassline are mixed here with just a little Digitalism electro on top. This was made for being played very, very loud, which I do.”

‘In Youth Is Pleasure’ - The Neat (Chewing Gum)

“The best new band from the region (they’re from Hull). Sparse yet heavy sounds reminiscent of Mclusky and Joy Division on steroids that flag up a very bright future for alternative rock in the region alongside the likes of Pulled Apart By Horses.”

‘Weird Feelings’ - Male Bonding (Sub Pop)
“Punky, lo-fi and grungy, London’s Male Bonding are players in the ever growing alt-rock/grunge scene that is blossoming in the UK and the US as well as down at the Cockpit.”

The Cockpit, Swinegate, LS1   4AG, 0113 244 1573, 11pm-3am, £4 (The Session, Fridays), £5 (The Garage, Saturdays)
