News Sound of Music Auditions in Leeds

Fancy yourself as the next stage star? Open auditions are taking place at The Carriageworks on 31st January…

Locally based amateur dramatics group Leeds Insurance Dramatic & Operatic Society (LIDOS) are looking for undiscovered talent to star in their forthcoming production of The Sound of Music.

Originally a stage musical but famously adapted into a film in 1965 (starring the wonderful Julie Andrews), the iconic The Sound of Music is set in the 1930s and follows the life of Maria Rainer and the Von Trapp family she works for. Like most great musicals, the story is full of romance and the production full of songs. When Maria falls in love with Georg Von Trapp, the father of the seven children she looks after, it seems that all will be happily-ever-after. However, true to history, the Second World War erupts, threatening to jeopardise the couple’s future. It will be fascinating to see the new production of this classic story when it comes to Leeds this summer.

Since it was founded in the1970s by a group of insurance workers, LIDOS has been putting on productions in Leeds for over 35 years. The society have just finished their Cinderella pantomime and memorably, last year, premiered Bad Girls The Musical. This year LIDOS are urging any budding thespians to come forward and attend their open auditions in order to be in with a chance of starring in one of the most beloved musicals of all time. So, if you know your Do-Re-Mi, can sing about My Favourite Things and fancy following in the footsteps of Connie Fisher (winner of BBC’s How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria), then why not take the chance to audition for the role of free-spirited Maria?

And if Maria isn’t your favoured role, why not take on the character of polished Austrian naval officer Captain Georg Von Trapp. Or if there are children in the family that would like to try their hand at singing and acting, there are the Von Trapp children roles also there for the taking. With a varied cast of characters, LIDOS are looking for a huge range of people to audition, from four-year-olds to 70-year-olds.

Further details of the roles available can be found at http://www.lidos.btck.co.uk/SoundofMusic
