Historic south Leeds attraction launches special offer for family days out

News: Middleton Railway Offers August Promotion

The world’s oldest working railway is offering visitors the chance to enjoy a pleasant summer’s day on the cheap. Now a charitable organisation and registered museum, Middleton Railway is offering unlimited rides on its antique diesel-hauled trains every Wednesday from 4th August to 1st September, with prices at a very budget-friendly rate of just £2.50 per person.

The 250 year-old railway station is situated in Hunslet, just two miles south of Leeds city centre. Middleton Railway’s trains run from Moor Road to Park Halt, where passengers are offered the chance to get off and explore pathways winding through over 200 acres of scenic woodland. Passengers may also learn more about the heritage of Middleton Railway through exploration of a nearby bell pit coal mine, which was one of the primary reasons for the construction of the railway back in 1758.

In addition to having trains available to hire for private functions and events, Middleton Railway’s upcoming promotion exists as a way for Leeds residents and tourists to take advantage of the summer holidays. Chairman of the Middleton Railway Trust, Andrew Gill, described a trip to the Railway as “a great day out for children and adults alike as there is so much to see and do”. While at the museum, families can visit the Engine House Display Hall (pictured), where many steam and diesel locomotives are on display, some dating back to the 19th century.

Throughout August, Middleton Railway is open for operation on Wednesdays starting at 10.30am, with the first train departing at 11am. Trains continue throughout the day at 40 minute intervals until 3pm. For further enquiries, contact Middleton Railway on 0113 271 0320, email info@middletonrailway.org.uk or visit www.middletonrailway.org.uk for full train times and details.

Gill encourages families living in or visiting nearby Leeds to “pop down for a fabulous day out that won’t break the bank”.
