The Olympic torch arriving in Leeds

News: Leeds & the Olympics

On 24th June, Leeds and its suburbs plays host to the Olympic Flame. The torch arrives in Ilkley just after 4.30 pm and then visits Headingley Stadium an hour later before going through Potternewton at 6.10 pm. And then onwards to East End Park. It then travels out to Temple Newsham where the evening celebrations will be taking place.

As one of the elements of the free event to be held at Temple Newsham to mark the iconic Olympic flame arriving in Leeds, the audience will be asked to take part in a mass-participation dance the scale of which has never been seen before in the city. Anyone wishing to register for this should visit http://leedstakespart.co.uk

During the period Leeds has also been chosen as the official training base for Russia’s diving team. The divers will be based at the Aquatics Centre at the John Charles Centre for Sport in the run-up to the games.
