City Inn hotels are launching a new micro-site this week, www.go-to-town.co.uk, which aims to get the people of Britain away from the coast and into the city. As it is the summer season and people are looking to get away, the idea is to tempt them into doing something a little different. The site will detail the lesser-known things to see and do in Leeds, which are off the beaten track and may not be so well-publicised.
Examples of the more original spots to head to in Leeds are Seven Arts Centre in Chapel Allerton, Kirkstall Abbey, Hyde Park Picture House, and Meanwood Valley Urban Farm. Anyone who lives in or has visited Leeds is invited to visit the site and upload their own ideas for imaginative events and places to go see, or anything that makes Leeds unique and would appeal to prospective tourists.
The incentive is that there are prizes to be won for those who wish to take part. Site visitors will rate the uploaded events and those with the highest ratings will win weekly rewards for the author, such as afternoon teas and meals at Leeds restaurants. Those who contribute regularly will be vying for ‘City Status’ accolades such as ‘Greatest Weekly Contributor’ to ‘The Highest Rated Weekly Gem’. The ultimate prize will be the title of ‘City Guru’; this lucky person will be awarded a two night stay for two at City’s Inn’s new Amsterdam hotel, opening early next year.
