The Oliver Awards are back to celebrate the best restaurants in Leeds in 2012 – and both restaurants inside Alea Casino have been nominated, with The Leeds Kitchen and The Bird competing for top honours.
Brought to you by Saturday Kitchen‘s celebrity chef James Martin, The Leeds Kitchen serves up some great British classics with a twist and you can even walk away with a signed copy of the celebrity chef’s cookbooks – that’s if you don’t get to chat with the man himself to make your meal even more memorable. Having opened in April last year, The Leeds Kitchen is the newest addition to Alea Leeds and it’s up for Best Newcomer and Best Service.
James Martin said: “The whole team have worked so hard in trying to deliver the best, local British produce possible and to have such nominations is fantastic in our first year of opening. Good luck to everyone up for an Oliver.”
Going head to head with The Leeds Kitchen is the Bird by Vineet. The neighbouring restaurant offers exquisite platters and tropical desserts. You can even learn how to cook with head chef Vivek Kahsiwale, who is nominated for best chef. As the winner of the Best Indian Restaurant award in 2011, they’re up for that gong again.
Originating from the Oliver restaurant reviews in the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Oliver Awards’ anonymous tasters visit over 100 venues annually across Yorkshire.
Rob Green, director of the venue, said: "Alea is becoming renowned for its fantastic restaurants and standard of food. The staff and I are delighted.

The Bird: 6pm -12 midnight Sunday to Wednesday, and 6pm - 1am Thursday to Saturday.
The Leeds Kitchen: 6pm - 11pm Monday to Saturday, and 12pm - 3pm on Sundays.
