Leeds’ lass Little Boots has topped the BBC’s influential Sound Of 2009 poll. Apparently 2009 is the year of the synthesizer and this lady’s loops place her at the forefront of the intelligent electronica movement - which we welcome with open arms.
A transatlantic scoop for local record label, Gizeh, who have managed to bag the ambient ex-Bella Union signed duo Trespassers William’s new album to add to a list of notable upcoming local releases - including moody electronica from Worried About Satan and the now defunct Redjetson’s last album.
The hardest working man in music, well locally at least, gojonnygogogo is not only hosting a decidedly sordid valentine’s day soiree at the Brudenell, with blind dating and a cracking soundtrack for all the lonely hearts out there, but he is also is teaming up with Plan B magazine to dabble in cinematic delights with the screening of modern punk cult favourite Kill Your Idols at the Hyde Park Picturehouse on the 29th-30th January. Busy may be an understatement.
Everyone’s favourite math-rock-but-not-really quartet, Wintermute, release a new single ‘Dead Or Not He Was Wearing Sunglasses’ through Big Scary Monsters on 2nd February in anticipation of the debut album release on 27th April. One of the most exciting live acts in these here parts catch them at The Library on 30th January with the equally impressive This Town Needs Guns.
Things are so quiet on the gig front that it can only be January so get your tickets now for the Shred Yr Face tour at The Cockpit on 26th February if the idea of The Bronx, Fucked Up and Rolo Tomassi all on the same bill gets you even a little excited, as indeed it should.
