How do you think your scene is doing at the moment?
I think the scene is doing remarkably well considering everyone is talking credit crunch. It seems people want to forget about their troubles at the weekend and go out and party. Good on them!
What do you think of the dance music scene on the whole?
The scene as a whole is going through change. It seems everything is going digital, which I have mixed views on. There are now so many genres of music, it’s hard to keep track. So far in 2009 it seems the parties are going well though. There seems to be loads going on in Leeds. Again, I don’t know whether that’s good or bad, being a promoter.
Have you noticed any trends in the requests you get at your nights?
I think everyone is feeling the techno/house thing at the minute in Leeds. Disco and new wave digital disco is definitely going to be something to look out for in the future.
Do you think the dance and indie scenes are merging somewhat?
Hell yeah, that’s been happening for a while. There are certain acts that cross over, Justice for example. There are also more bands doing DJ sets these days, which is a great example of this.
Do you think people are turning from dance to guitar music?
I think people are using guitars more in dance music. Acts are wanting to use more live elements in their sets these days.
Is dance music dead?
Absolutely not, it just seems to be a little harder right now. The scene will never die!
