What do you do for a living?
I work in sports development for the City of York council, or I will be in a week. It’s a new job. I’ve worked in sports development before, but not for York council.
How long have you lived in Leeds?
I was at university here for three years and then moved back home to where my parents live for a couple of years, and then I’ve moved back to Leeds again. I’ve been here for six months now. I always loved Leeds. It’s a young persons’ city, with students and young professionals, so as soon as I got the opportunity I moved back.
What do you like about living in this area?
Living right by The Calls, it’s really good for the bars and the social side. All the bars I like to go to are here, like Neon Cactus, Oporto, places like that, and it’s good for the music scene too.
What’s your favourite cocktail?
White Russians. I started drinking kahlua in New Zealand, where a friend introduced me to drinking different cocktails and the White Russian was the best. It gets you so pissed. You start drinking it and you think you’re alright, but all of a sudden it hits you. But it’s a really good drink.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
I think Blackhouse, that would definitely be up there. But a lot of the restaurants around Greek Street are really good.
What do you do on your days off from work?
I play loads of sport and go to the gym quite a bit. I’m at Pure Gym just by the Corn Exchange. I play lots of cricket, football, badminton and squash. I’m trying to play golf although I’m terrible at it at the minute. Whenever I can, I travel back home to play cricket for the team I used to play for.
What’s your favourite room in the flat and why?
Probably the living room because it’s quite different to most of the flats in Leeds; it’s a different layout. It also has a patio going off it, which most flats don’t have, so that’s quite cool. There’s a little barbecue out there, so it’s a good social space to get the music on and have people over.
If you were hosting a dinner party what would you cook?
I think it would be quite traditional. I really like doing curries and things like that, but I don’t know if I’d risk that, so I’d probably make steak or something like that. I’d do a starter with prawns because I like a lot of seafood. Then some sort of chocolatey dessert!
Who would your celebrity guest be?
There’d be several. From the sporting world, one of the England cricketers, Andrew Flintoft, someone like that, and there was another cricketer who I met in New Zealand called Jason Hill and we spent a bit of time with him when we were out there. On the female side, probably someone like Christine Bleakley, partly for the accent!
What would you do if you won the lottery?
I would still have a place in Leeds. I’d go travelling again, for about a year. Back to New Zealand, around Australia, Thailand, South America, all over. I’d really like to go to places like Japan and Hong Kong. Then I’d probably spend a bit of time following various touring sports teams.
Where’s your favourite place to shop in Leeds?
I don’t have a favourite shop as such, but I love the less traditional ones, the ones in the arcades that aren’t part of a chain, so whatever you’re buying isn’t going to be worn by 50 other people.
Have you ever spotted a celebrity in Leeds?
Yeah, you see the ‘Emmerdale’ ones the whole time. Somebody told me there were some people from ‘Emmerdale’ living in this block but I haven’t seen them yet, not that I’ve been searching around! You occasionally see some of the Leeds footballers around who aren’t that famous. And someone pointed out the Leeds singer Corinne Bailey Rae to me.
If your house was on fire what item would you save?
Maybe my films. Because I can’t stop buying them, I’ve built up quite a collection now.
