Kill For A Seat seems to be ever expanding throughout Yorkshire! How many shows do you promote now?
Three in Leeds (Kill for a Seat at Seven Arts, the Courtyard Comedy Club for the West Yorkshire Playhouse, various things at Verve); Kill for a Seat Comedy Clubs at Great Northern Wine in Ripon, the Hop in Wakefield, Nosh in Almondbury, and the Arts Centre in Helmsley; and gigs further afield from north Wales to Pembrokeshire to Bedfordshire. They’re on www.killforaseat.com if you’re interested!
What other interesting stuff have you been up to lately?
I hosted a village fete in Chapel Allerton as part of the Leeds Food Festival. Early doors, trying not to drop the c-bomb while kids are having their faces painted on a bouncy castle. I felt half Alan Partridge, half Midsomer Murders.
Is comedy the new rock ‘n’ roll?
See the previous answer. Rock ‘n’ roll is very tiring day in day out.
What inspired you to become a comedian and who are your comedy idols?
I was blackmailed into starting comedy. True story. Hunger, and fear of the yawning silence, have propelled me ever since.
Where did you face your most hostile crowd?
I don’t know yet, but I’m ready for them. Got a super-soaker full of old milk, waiting with my finger itchy on the trigger.
What would you be doing for a living if not comedy?
A gigolo, chasing the sun around the Cote d’Azur… dancing for money… I honestly don’t know, though I’ve a poor quality degree from a very good university in Evolutionary Genetics. Mother is terribly proud that I’m a gobshite.
What do you like or dislike about living in Leeds?
Leeds is brilliant. I’m really enjoying the music scene around town, the burgeoning comedy scene, boobling around the shops, and my girlfriend keeps trying to ‘borrow’ the slow loris from Tropical World.
