Murphy Simmonds tries out a man-shaped sleeping bag

Gadget Reviews: MusucBag

We love sleeping bags. Ever since our parents first packed us into one of these thick, fluffy people-sleeves, we have felt an intense fondness for the sensation of womblike safety they provide in any given surroundings.

When we were being shunned, bullied, beaten and – on a good day – fondled during a series of scout camps, it was the warm embrace of our sleeping bag which soothed our soul. When we collapsed, frothing at the mouth after injecting a cocktail of heroin, cocaine, crystal meth, gin, Fisherman’s Friend and Tipp-Ex into our neck at a music festival, it was the calming hug of a sleeping bag which chaperoned us on our trip to A&E.

And when we were parachuted out of a plane into the Taliban-ruled desert of Afghanistan with nothing but a broom handle and bin lid to defend ourselves, it was the reassuring… oh no, wait, we didn’t have a sleeping bag at that point. Which is probably why we’re writing this from a secure cell in a terrorist bunker. If you’re reading this, please inform NATO of our plight.

Anyway, we love sleeping bags. And we thought we could never love an outdoor night aid more than a sleeping bag. But we were wrong.

Let us introduce the MusucBag. It has a silly name, yes, but trust us when we say it is a thing of great beauty, and something we’re amazed has not been done before. It’s a sleeping bag shaped like a person.

You put it on by stepping inside the leg bits, sliding your hands into the arm bits and zipping up either side of the chest. Hey presto, you’re a human Teletubby.

It is, essentially, what a sleeping bag would be if someone had sat down while designing it and taken a proper look at a human being. The result is something you can walk about in unhindered, then just lie down and fall asleep without any extra faff. It even has zippy bits to free your hands, so you can hold stuff. It’s a problem if you walk on wet ground or need the loo, but then so’s a normal sleeping bag.

In summary, we like the MusucBag. We like it very much. If you like sleepings bags, you’ll probably like it too. We just wish we had one here with us in the cell. It’s awfully cold in this Taliban cell.
