Haley & Clifford in Leeds, has been judged the top delicatessen in the North East of England in the Deli of the Year 2012 competition. Well deserved celebrations are planned as this firmly cements Leeds on the foodie map of Britain after a hard fought competition with some of the UK’s finest delis being nominated and only 10 making it through to be Regional Winners.
More than 300 delis up and down the UK were nominated with over 12000 votes cast and only the top 10 delis have made it through as Regional Winners. Now judges will visit each of the top 10 delis, unannounced and incognito, to see if Haley & Clifford is to be crowned the Olives Et Al Deli of the Year 2012. When the final decision has been made the winning deli will be announced at the Deli of the Year Final in September at the Great Taste Awards gala dinner in London.
“To have won the North East title for the second year running, is just astonishing! We really didn’t think that we’d win again, but we’re chuffed to bits to have kept the title in Leeds. This has been a great team effort- so many of our customers voted for us and told the judges very clearly why they thought we should be Deli of the Year! A huge thank you to them for all their support- they will be as delighted as we are when we tell them the news.
“We’ll be planning a tasting evening for our customers later in the summer and will be baking a huge cake for the event, so that we can all celebrate together. To be counted in the top ten delis in the country is simply stunning and is great recognition of how hard all the team work to make this a special place to be. We’d love to win the overall UK title- we came so close last year- we want the big one this time!” said Val Berry, owner of Haley & Clifford.
