Leeds’ future music stars are being given the chance to learn all about the music industry, local opportunities for studio time and watch peers perform in front of a panel of local music industry judges as part of a national music campaign to promote peace and unity in cities.
Peace Mix is a campaign by the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and social enterprise the New Day Foundation (formed by ex gang members from Birmingham) which aims to give young people across the UK a voice and the opportunity to help promote peace through music.
The event at Future Arts on East Street and Eiger Studios in Hunslet will see local acts including emerging singer songwriters Luigi & Holly (19) from Beeston and Holt Park and band Stream Flow (16-17) from Chapeltown and Harehills compete to win a place in the final at the Eden Project in Cornwall this August.
One overall winner from the Eden event will be chosen to perform at the Peace Mix finale alongside Tynchy Stryder and special surprise guests at London’s prestigious Roundhouse on 28 August.
Young performers from West Yorkshire are invited to attend the music industry seminar from 1.30pm – 2.30pm can call 0113 2468294 to book their place.
If you’re a young artist and want to see your competition up close, tickets are available for the showcase at 7.30pm and can be collected from Future Arts or on the door of Eiger Studios on the night. They have a limited capacity so organisers are recommending people call and reserve tickets for the door.
If you can’t make Friday’s event - young singers and musicians between 16 and 24 are being encouraged to lay their ideas over the Peace Mix crowd-source track for a chance to win the VIP treatment in the big smoke at the Finale gig at London’s Roundhouse with Tinchy Stryder at the end of August. Upload your ideas at www.peacemix.co.uk.
