"Whether it’s seeing beautiful period costumes, stunning evening gowns, Orlando Bloom’s pirate outfit or simply the sight of Mr Darcy’s shirt, this is a great exhibition which we think will appeal to everyone.”

If you’re interested in fashion, film or studying costume design or textiles, a new exhibition at Leeds City Museum is an ideal opportunity to get a glimpse of some of the finest examples of costumes seen in films and on TV over recent years.

Called Heroes and Heroines, the exhibition features pieces worn by movie stars like Colin Firth, and Emma Thompson (in adaptations of Jane Austen’s novels Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility); dresses worn by Nicole Kidman in Portrait of a Lady; Cate Blanchett’s outfits in Elizabeth and one of Madonna’s 85 costumes worn in the movie Evita.

These can be seen alongside historical garments and amazing examples of exquisite costume design and clothes making, until 9th January 2011.

Helen Langwick, Leeds City Museum curator of exhibitions said: “Anyone interested in film or fashion is going to love Heroes and Heroines. Some of the dresses and outfits on display look absolutely amazing, and of course having clothes worn by some of the most famous film stars in the world is a fantastic coup for Leeds City Museum.”

She added: “Whether it’s seeing beautiful period costumes, stunning evening gowns, Orlando Bloom’s pirate outfit or simply the sight of Mr Darcy’s shirt, this is a great exhibition which we think will appeal to everyone.”

Also on offer is an eye-catching costume worn by the late Heath Ledger in Casanova, outfits worn by Daniel Craig in Defiance, and costumes worn by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet in Finding Neverland.
