Legendary ‘Britpop’ band Ocean Colour Scene’s greatest hits will echo around Pocktoberfest 2012 after another major musical coup by organisers.
An acoustic set by Simon&Oscar – band frontman Simon Fowler and drummer Oscar Harrison – will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of a festival expecting to attract up to 1,500 visitors.
Seminal songs like The Day We Caught The Train, The Riverboat Song and Hundred Mile High City saw Ocean Colour Scene achieve huge success in the mid 90s.
Simon&Oscar join the likes of cult scouse rockers Echo and the Bunnymen and Mercury Music Prize nominees The Guillemots also confirmed for Sunday October 28.
Glastonbury Festival Emerging Talent Award-winning Ellen & the Escapades have also joined the line-up, while the privilege of opening on the Sunday has gone to local band Club Smith – championed on both BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6Music – who are returning to the Pocklington area after a successful tour with the Kaiser Chiefs.
Also confirmed for Sunday are the critically acclaimed British singer-songwriter David Ford, whose last album topped the UK iTunes singer-songwriter chart, and Louis Barabbas and the Bedlam Six whose infamous live performances mix rock, jazz, folk and theatre influences.
This charity festival is officially supporting Help for Heroes (H4H) and hopes to raise more than £5,000 towards the building and running of Phoenix House, a dedicated residential centre in Catterick for wounded service personnel.
Tickets are selling briskly and people are urged to buy them early to avoid missing out on the event, which over the weekend will again feature the traditional array of real ale, lagers and ciders from across the UK.
Janet Farmer, Pocklington Arts Centre manager and the festival’s music programmer said: “We are extremely pleased with the line-up for this year’s festival – we’ve just added the fast rising and critically acclaimed Ellen & The Escapades from Leeds, singer-songwriter David Ford, a regular performer at Pocklington Arts Centre in recent years; Simon&Oscar from the legendary Ocean Colour Scene performing an acoustic set featuring the band’s greatest hits; Club Smith, fresh from a support tour with the Kaiser Chiefs, and Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam Six - a gothic, burlesque rock-abilly band from Manchester.”
The festival is again a collaboration between Pocklington Round Table, Pocklington Arts Centre and Pocklington School. Any businesses interested in being a sponsor should email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.pocktoberfest.co.uk for details of packages available.
